The Vulcan - one of Cardiff’s oldest trading pubs, due for closure for NCP. Tragic.
Shocking. I walk past this on the way to work most days. It’s proper old school.

The car park is almost never full, why would they need an extra 10 spaces?

The cost of charity.

Upon one of my many wanderings through Cardiff city centre, some friends and I happened upon a person with a sign that displayed “Looking for a job?”. We’d been caught looking and so they decided that we were a suitable audience for the job pitch. It was paying £7-something and hour and it wasn’t call center work…oh no…much worse: Charity Subscription Agents. Those irritatingly persistent people who roam the streets mid-day begging you to sign for a subscription with anything with a registered number.

I was not interested in this job. I was however interested in who was looking for foot-soldiers at £7ish an hour, it turned out that this was an independent company who collected subscriptions for anyone who wished to hire their services. I then enquired as to the rates at which this independent company charged.

The going rate was £70 for every 2 year subscription collected. I thought this was a little steep, then wondered how much was the average monthly subscription - I was told around £7 a month (a lot of sevens here…)

I did some quick totals in my head and at that rate the “average” subscription is £84 a year or £168 for 2 years of which £70 goes to this company… Just over 41% of your subscription will go to this company, just for the initial admin.

At this point I kindly told them that I couldn’t talk to them anymore and my friends and I left.

Tumblr on facebook

The “Tumble Log” application is working again. However i’ve noticed that it isn’t displaying the audio or video boxes like it used to. So if you’re reading this on Facebook it might be worth clicking here to see everything how it should be.

Over 10 Trillion of debt and counting.

With an estimated GDP of $13.13 trillion America’s national debt exceeds 75% of its entire national income. The debt increases by tens of thousands a second, and unless economic matters see a marked improvement I wouldn’t be surprised if the debt began to exceed the GDP within the next couple of years.

Worry.

[Flash 9 is required to listen to audio.]

Recorded in Jon’s bedroom, original idea was to build up the instrumentation adding drums and bass. Unfortunately, neither of us got around to it and a few days ago I realised that he had posted the rough mix I had slapped together on his myspace page. So I got to work on a real mix and what you (hopefully) are listening to is the finished product.
